Are you a cup or a storage container?
My new favorite CD is Hillsongs, "This Is Our God" and I have been listening to it over and over. My favorite song on the CD is Desert Song! (I linked it so you can take a listen) So as I listened to it for like the 100th time it hit me that this song could be the mantra for my life.
It talks about the many seasons that we all go through and the promises that we have as a child of God. Growing up in church I've had a lot poured into me but I have times in my life where I feel that my spiritual life is Sahara type dry. I thank God that in those desert times I know He will provide. I also know that with Him and through Him I can conquer all and I have been blessed to have had Him bring me through the flame/storm!
Now if you listed to the song, or read the lyrics, you should take notice that the most important part of the song is the last verse:
This is my prayer in the harvest
When favor and providence flow
I know I'm filled to be emptied again
The seed I've received I will sow
That's what our life has to be, we must be a cup, pouring out and into the lives of others. So many times we as Christian sit in church and receive and become storage containers...now this is fine for a seasons but we must be cups! The reason that we are filled and receive His favor and providence is because of His great love but if we truly understand His love then we know that we must be a vessel that is pouring out and not just storing up.
I asked myself, "am I sowing the seed I've received?" Am I being a cup or just a container?
