Sushi for Lunch and Gyros for Dinner

Today I started out in Buras and then made my way to Houma, where I had lunch with Brandon at Samurai Dragon. It was a beautiful for driving as I made my way to Lafayette to hang out with Bri, Lee and Bella. Bella is getting so big and she is too cute. We had fun catching up and got to go and see their new rent house. After checking out the house, which has a crazy amount of storage and closets, we went to go eat at Poseidon's. I had my first gyro and it was great!!!

#12 Was Completed Tonight

Tonight was a really fun night!! It started with dinner at at Galatoir's, which was amazing! Its old New Orleans charm that offers wonderful ambiance and great service. Following a wonderful dinner we took a jaunt through the French Quarter to the Mahalia Jackson Theater for the 8:00 pm showing of Wicked.
Seeing a Broadway musical was #12 on my list of things to do this year and Wicked was a great chose. The show was Amazing, wonderful vocals, great dancing, and beautiful costumes and sets!! Having gone to this musical has me even more excited about going to see the Nutcracker this year, another item on my list. Well its really late and I'm on the road tomorrow to visit Bri, Lee & Bella

He wants to go with me
This has been a pretty good spring break so far, and its progressively getting better. I got back from my trip with the girls and unpacked a bit but really just repacked and switched out some clothes. I have a fun filled night planned for tonight with dinner at Galatoires to kick it off and then tickets to Wicked. Should be a lot of fun!!!! Then Wed. I'm off to Houma for lunch with Brandon, on to Lafayette to spend the night at Bri & Lee's and catch up with them. Thur. I'm on to Lake Charles to be a judge for the LA Assemblies of God Fine Arts, and maybe even get to hang out with Liz! Then I'm on my way back home just in time to dye some eggs! I love dying eggs!! I do feel a lil bad that poor lil Auggie will be home alone for the next 4 days, but he's got a ton of toys to entertain himself.

Laundry Day and Other Chores

Yep, today was laundry day. I've been putting it off now for quite some time. It really has been kind-of hard taking such a long and late class on Tue. & Thur. I have enjoyed the class but its just been a lot. My weeks seem to be going by so fast, as well as the semester. So during the crazy week I don't really do to much. So today I played catch up and got a lot done. I balanced my check book, paid bills, cleaned up around the house, sorted mail, washed and folded five loads of clothes, and cleaned up my office. I also packed and got some things ready for our girls trip tomorrow. We leave for Biloxi tomorrow and I'm ready for a fun and relaxing time with the girls. I love the beach! I think it would be a lot of fun to live by the beach for awhile. It's funny that we live in a place that is surrounded by water and have no good beaches.

Tanning Tools
Today was a Beautiful Day!!! I spent most of my day soaking up some sun. I did get a lil brunt probably due in part that there was a breeze most of the day and so I didn't feel the sun cooking me. Today felt so much like a Saturday since I didn't have school. Tomorrow I have to get some stuff done before my trip to the beach on Sunday.
So life has been a little different for me the last few weeks. I'm enjoying the change and riding the wave in this big sea called life. For so long I felt that I was just slowly coasting along, but now it seems that I have hit some waves and its stirring up some of the interesting sea life.

It's Done

I finished my painting!!! I really like how it turned out. Its a fragment/collage painting. Meaning that I made a collage from fragments of shapes and objects and then picked a small area from the collage to paint. The three objects are a pair of red lips, a leaf, and the folds of a dress. Well as always Thur. are my really long day so I'm going to call it a night. I'm so excited about the fact that I get to sleep in tomorrow since we start our Spring Break tomorrow...YAY!!!

Two New Friends

Last semester I had bought this really pretty Beta Fish for my classroom and I'm sad to say that it only made it for two months!!! I was so surprised that it died.
One of the reasons I was so shocked by his sudden death was the fact that I had one while I was in college. When I went to Europe my roommate forgot to feed him and clean his bowl, so upon my return, I was surprised to find him still alive and swimming. His bowl was Super dirty, so as the responsibly pet owner that I am, I got everything ready to clean out his bowl. Well to do this I would pour most of the water out and then pour the remaining water and fish into a small butter bowl. So I was completing this task, as I had done before, over my sink when he decided to make a run for it. Well I will just tell you that I had a garbage disposal in my sink and when he made a run for it, that was where he landed. Maybe he had watched Finding Nemo and thought that the drain would lead to an ocean, but it just led to him lying on top of the garbage disposal blades. So then it came down to the question, do I turn it on and let it be a quick death, or do I try and figure out how to retrieve him?? Well I just could not flip the switch with him staring at me with his one bulgy fish eye, and decided that a retrieval was in order. So I grabbed my cheater chopsticks (the ones that look like large clothes pins) and went in for the save. I was able to pull him free, but not without forfeiting some of his frilly tale. Even after all of this the fish lived, yes he did swim a little strange without all of his tail, but he lived for quite some time after that.
So, having personally experienced the durability of a Beta Fish I thought that it was a wise chose as a classroom fish and would be able to survive whatever a freshmen class through it's way. Boy was I was wrong! I never took into account that Freshmen would think it was funny to put hand sanitizer into a fish's bowl. So two months and a few days I find Mr Kane belly up in his bowl. Of course the students told on each other and that was how I came to find out what was the cause of Kane's untimely death...Murder by hand sanitizer!
So I have had an empty fishbowl in my classroom for some time and today one of my students brought me two new little guppies. I have put them on my desk in the hopes that they may live longer then our past friend. So now lil Tigris and Euphrates are happily swimming in their new home. All hand sanitizer has been kept at a safe distances in the hopes of saving them from the fate of their predecessor.

Its Almost Done!

I took the picture with my cell, so not the best. I should finish it Thur. and then we move on to the next painting. We have to do a surrealist painting based on an artist that we researched. I really like the paintings by Vladimir Kush! He has some amazing paintings and awesome content. So I have included a few of my favorites by him for you to check out. Well its been a VERY long day and I can barely keep my eyes open.

What is Up With this Weather??

Saturday was the first day of spring and you can not tell it at all. I'm really ready for summer weather and as it appears so is Auggie. His new thing is to lay in front of the heater...I'm really worried that I'm going to look over and see that he has caught fire. Today was a pretty good Monday! My civic class had to present their President power points. I have to say that they had to be the funniest presentations I have ever sat through. It was the kind-of funny that was not tried for or created, it was the best kind, pure, spontaneous, and totally accidental. One example was when one of my students was explaining that FDR died from "hemorrhoids" when he meant a hemorrhage! So funny!!! Then it just went down hill from there. Today went bye so fast!! Tomorrow we start the first day, of the first part, of the ILEAP test.
It was a beautiful day, a little cold considering that its the middle of March in south LA. After school I finally did the car maintenance that I've been putting off. I've been needing to check my oil and fluids, put on my new hubcaps, replace a burnt out blinker bulb, and fix my horn. So I got home, changed into old clothes and dove right in. Got it all done, even with Auggie swatting at me the whole time, and almost freezing to death once the sun went down. Well tomorrow is my long day so I'm about to hit the hay.

Who Paints these?? Someone get His Name...

So I watched history(not good history) being made tonight as I watched the passing of the health care bill. I hate to see our country take this turn. But no matter what happens in our lives, in the country, in politics, in the world, we have to remember that He is still on the throne. And, as my favorite verse states, "...He will perfect that which concerneth me..." Ps. 138:8.
Took these pictures this afternoon after church. Very strange looking sky! But oh so Beautiful!!

A Quiet Saturday Night with just Auggie and I and some Law & Order

Spending a quiet Sat. in. I really haven't gotten to much done today besides running to town to take care of some errands. Cleaned up around the house some, organized and went through mail, and washed a sink full of dishes. So me and Auggie are bugging each other and I'm going to go ahead and do my lesson plans for next week while watching Law & Order. I'm also going to make our reservations for our Spring Break trip. Were doing a girls weekend of shopping and spa, should be a lot of fun! I can't believe that we only have 4 more school days till we're off for Spring Break!! This semester is going by so fast. Well much to blog about tonight so I will sign off. Have a great Sunday!           -Till Tomorrow

Room 152

There are days that I feel that I reside at room 152. Its a happy lil place, and best of all its my space. I have to say that Katrina Ally has to be the best high school hallway. Yeah we don't have hallways with walls, we have to fight the gnats, and when it rains it really pours. But its the people that also call this hallway their home away from home that make it what it is. Were there for each other and help when we can. We share the day to day gripes that come with the job, as well as the joys that sometimes brighten our day. People have come and gone but the group that we have there now seem to be staying around for quite some time. It makes the day so much easier when you know a friend is next door or just down the hall. Someone today said that we were a hallway click, well we are if a click is defined as a group that gets along, shares the same goal (to try and teach each and everyday) and knows how to have fun. But I tend to view clicks as closed off and stuck up, and well thats just not the case with us at all. So here's to all who reside with me down our hall...glad your with me through it all (PLC's, PD's, crazy parent calls, when your a dream crusher, when your "not" teaching higher order thinking, when they evaluate,  all the crazy clubs, and drama that comes with the job!)

Still in the works & Looking back

Tonight I made some headway on my collage painting. Its really coming together and I'm enjoying my class. I have to say that I'm really thankful that it’s Friday tomorrow!! I'm really excited about spending the weekend not doing much at all. A friend of mine recently inspired me to go back and read some old notes. So I took her advice and came across this below. I wrote it a few years back and thought that it applied as much today as it did back when I wrote it. -Till Tomorrow

The Influence of Democracy
By Alexis de Tocqueville

…All this is not in contradiction to what I have said before on the subject of individualism. The two things ate so far from combating each other, that I can see how they agree. Equality if conditions, while it makes men feel their independence, shows them their own weakness: they are free, but exposed to a thousand accidents; and experience soon teaches them, that although they do not habitually require the assistance of other, a time almost always comes when they cannot do without it.

I had book when I was little that my parents gave to me titled, “I Can Do It By Myself,” as you might have gathered that was something I said quit often when they would try and help me. Now that I am older I have realized, just like the observation by Mr. Tocqueville, that we all have moments when we require the assistance of others. We can’t do everything By Ourselves and it’s not a sign of weakness to say that we need help. All of us deep down want to feel the satisfaction of independence, but we must realize that we are all have weaknesses, just in different areas, but we must remember what 2 Cor. 12:9 says, “My Grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” When we trust God to take us thru and admit our need for Him we will experience a much deeper and fulfilling satisfaction.

My collage painting...its still in the process

What a week

Hope that everyone had a very happy St. Patrick's day! I was decked out in my green and enjoyed this day as I always do. So this has been a very interesting work week and were only on Wed. We started test prep today and had the whole Jr class all in the library going over test questions and word, wow! I also decided that it was time to redo my seating arrangement in my classroom. I have been having some issues with talking in class and students not staying on task. So I just need to separate some people to help remove the distractions. Tomorrow will be so funny as they all walk in and look for their names on the desks and the sign of a really good seating arrangement is the audible Auhhhh that will be heard across the classroom.
I've been thinking about going back to school to start on my masters. I'm not sure if I'm really ready to be back in the classroom as a student, and I'm still paying on the first degree. But if I ever want to move up and maybe one day be in administration then I need it. Just not sure, maybe I will just see what happens.
Well tomorrow is my really long day. I have detention, tutoring, and then my art class till 10pm with an hour drive home. Well it looks like I could be in bed before Midnight so I will leave you with my daily pic. Its of my classroom and the new seating arrangements that had me at school till 5.
-Till Tomorrow

My new classroom set up! Not as easy as it looks. You have to figure out which kids are going to sit to the front, which ones can you trust in the back, who can sit together, who are your talkers, who you want close to you so you have easy access to help them stay on task. Then you have to make sure that all students can move around the room without mishap and I like to be able to walk around and see what everyone is working on. Oh, and I have to make sure that all of the students can see the Smart Board. Plus, there are the kids that cant sit next to each other unless you want to be cleaning up bloodshed, the girls who have stolen each others boyfriends and the boys that cant sit next to the girls that they are trying to get with. Class clowns in the back so they don't have an audience, talkers scattered about the front rows with quiet kid between them, and smart kids together so that the not so smart kids doesn't just copy all the smart kids work and never do any of his own. Oh, and then there are a few parents that have requested that their student be moved to the front, as close to me as possible....yay!!
All of that just so that they can sit and learn.

45 days and we're all counting

This is what one of my students wrote on my board today. Can you tell that they are very excited and ready for the school year to be over?? They also had another count down till Spring Break. I have to fess up I, and most of my coworkers, are counting down with them. I still can't believe how fast the year is going by! Before you know it it will be Fall again. Today was a really good day, well except for the fact that I work up at 7:22 and supposed to be at work for 7:30!! But I have to say that I did pretty good, I was dressed and at school by 7:50. I'm not sure what happened to my alarm, but I will be fixing it tonight! My niece Molly is down for a visit. She is getting so big so fast. She is such a lil clown, kept me laughing tonight!! She wants to hug and hold my kitten Auggie, he on the other hand is not that excited about the idea.
I'm so excited about our Spring Break trip to the beach! Going to spend two days laying on the beach and our rooms are only going to cost us $33 bucks apiece!! Well its getting late and Tue. is my detention day so I will leave you with some pics of me and my niece making faces and some of her and Auggie.       -Till Tomorrow
She got stuck!

Springing Forward

We spring forward today. So change that clock or watch, because no matter how you get your time told to you, your going to be seeing more of that big ball of orange in the sky! I love daylight savings time and getting more time with the sun around. Today was such a wonderful day!! I got to lay out and catch some sun and enjoy the beautiful weather. This was just an all around, really good, weekend!
Tonight the sermon was on how God can provide exceedingly more then we can imagine. It was also on how we don't see as many miracles today because many of us do not need them. We want things and our way but we have to know the difference between a want and a need. So I looked up need:
1 circumstances in which something is necessary, or that require some course of action; necessity : the basic human need for food | [with infinitive ] there's no need to cry.
2 (often needs) a thing that is wanted or required : his day-to-day needs.
3 the state of lacking basic necessities such as food or money : a family whose need was particularly pressing.
• the state of requiring help or support : help us in our hour of need.
I can't say that I have very many needs...a lot of wants is more like it. We are so very blessed! I really need to cut back on my wants! I've made myself stop from going to ebay. I really need to start putting away for a car and build my emergency fund back to where it needs to be.  I just need to get my focus back and start saving and paying down the debt. I mean, Ive been paying on it and doing ok but I want to do great!
So I've been trying to make something happen and worrying about it and I finally just gave it to God and let it go and just as I had gotten to the point that I wasn't even thinking about it God worked it out. It never ceases to amaze me how God cares about even the smallest things. As I'm typing this I remember a scripture that I heard a pastor's wife read to the church when she explained how God cared about even her broken washer. She read Ps. 138:8, which has become one of my favorites.
"The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever." Ps. 138:8
How awesome that He will make perfect the things that concern me. Now, I always have to remind myself that God's perfect may not always match up to my skewed human view of perfect. But I know that in the end, no matter what, His way will always be the Right way and His perfect the right perfect.

5 Teachers, 1 Paramedic, 1 Med Student, and a Ball of Good Ole Irish Fun

Today was an awesome day for a St. Patrick's Day Parade!! This was my first N.O. parade. I know, most people can't believe that I grew up so near Nawlins and haven't been to a Mardi Gras parade. So as I stated in my last post, thanks to Kayce and Heidi I have been doing more and seeing more of the wonderful city that is in my backyard. We had a lot of fun at the parade today and we all came to the same conclusion. We believe that most of the people in the parade, mostly men, do it just so they can dress up and walk around handing out fake green flowers to women for a kiss on the cheek. Oh, and yet another great excuse for all of us to get together and pass a good time. I also believe that South LA people really like to throw things from moving vehicles! I was super excited to catch the first Cabbage in our group. Throwing cabbages is a big part of the St. Patrick's Parades. They also throw  carrots, onions...and moonpies! (You may even see a potato or two in the air!).
So overall a great day and a fun time. While we were sitting around waiting on the parade we decided that we're going to go to the beach for Spring Break. Only two weeks and we get a 8 days off...I love being a teacher!! LOL Well I will leave you with some pics of the day.

Got a New Treat

I got a new treat in the mail today...check it out

Yay!! Today is Friday! We finished up exams today and I graded everything and posted all of it so I brought NOTHING home with me. I plan to enjoy my weekend and not do anything with school till Sunday night when I print my lesson plans for next week.
Im so excited to be going to my first St. Patrick's Day parade tomorrow. Me and some friends are going to the parades uptown. I have to say that I'm very thankful for a few of the people that I have become friends with. They are getting me out more and I have to say that I'm proud of myself for going. I'm seeing more of the wonderful city and all the good it has to offer. So I will be decked out in green tomorrow (which works out great since its my favorite color) and going to what Im sure will be passing a good time with my friends up the road.
Oh, I took these pics of Auggie...he's such a crazy lil cat!!! Check out him sticking out his tongue.   -Till Tomorrow

Better then what I hoped

I was reflecting tonight on how things have turned out so far... You see I really didnt know what to expect when I moved back down the road and took the job at South Plaq. I was a little afraid that I would not have any friends and would be void of a life. I did know that if I came down here that I would be placing myself in no mans land (really, there are no men down here) but God seemed to be pushing me to come down here, so I did. I had been in Thibodaux for 4 years following Katrina, and had made friends. When I moved there I felt as if my life had been pulled up and thrown there, and then I met this group of people that helped me enjoy my time there. I was sad to leave them. But I have to say that, as always, God worked it out. I have a wonderful job and I work with an awesome group of people. Along the way I have become friends with a great group of teachers that work at my school and in the area. It always amazes me how a person builds relationships with the people that they work with. And its worked out that we're all a fun group that likes to travel, shop, and have weekends and summers off...ahh got to love a teachers schedule!!! I have to say that it has been so strange to be in yet another season of my life. I have drawn closer to my coworkers and have drifted further from some of my friends that I grew up with. But no matter what season that I go through there will always be those people that are there with me and are so much apart of that part of my life...I guess it really is the people that come in and out of our lives that makes us who we are. One thing that this has taught me is to cherish the people that may come into my life, learn from them, make memories with them and recognize that they are always a small apart of me no matter where life may leads us. So, I thank God for those that I call friend and look forward to the friends I haven't yet to meet.
My book for this month is "Common Sense" by Glenn Beck. I know I said that I was going to read it last month but I read a few fictions books on the cruise. Pretty good book so far and I have to say that Im agreeing with Beck's look on things. Will let you know what happens as I read through it.

A Review Day

We are in review mode this week due to exams that start tomorrow. I have created my Geography exam, a beautiful 150 question test that will test the freshman's mind on all things geography from North America to Russia. We all enjoyed a day of fun filled game playing review games. They just love to play games where they compete against each other in groups. I'm so proud of some of my students that I have seen such a huge turn around with their studying and grades. They have really been studying and applying themselves and I'm hoping for all passing grades, if not all B's or higher.  So tomorrow we start the exams but we don't have a half day tomorrow, but we do on Friday! Oh, and I'm super excited about going to my first St. Patrick's Day parade this weekend!!! I love St. Patrick's Day!!! As I stated before in my previous post, I have started a charm bracelet. Its Juicy Couture and just so cute, and the first charm that I got is a four leaf clover... and it just so happens to be my pic of the day.
Well, I'm so tired and not much to blog about today so...         -Till Tomorrow

My Lil Bit of Luck
