Getting ready

I'm going on a road trip and have been so busy getting everything ready for it. I didn't take any pics today besides the one for my "What I Wore Wednesday." I'm so excited to be going on this trip, this is the first summer in 4 years that I have not gone out of the country for a summer vacation. So if I can't go out of the country then I'm going out of state. So to the Grand Canyon I go!!!!! I'm super excited about going see the Canyon and all of the stops along the way. My best friend Rachel is going with me and we have been talking about doing this forever. Its a great time to do it, both of us have been so busy with our careers and living so far apart makes it hard to get together as much as we used to. So this will be a good trip for us. The last road trip, I use that word loosely here, was when we drove to Destine way back in '05. So this should be interesting...  -Till Tomorrow

My Lil Man

One Cool Dude

So yesterday on my way home from the wedding I got a call, it was my lil nephew Max (he's 6). He had come home with my Mom after his baseball games that he played in N.O. When he got to the house he wanted to know where his Nan Syl was. So he called me to tell me that he couldn't wait till I got home. Because he was not planning to go home with Grandma his Mom hadn't packed him any clothes, so it was a trip to Wal-Mart to get him some play clothes. He was so excited and wanted to tell me that he had gotten a Italy soccer shirt. He said that he got the Italy shirt because that was where I loved to go on my trips...how precious is that!! I really don't know what I did that this kid loves me so much and why me and him have this bond that I'm not even sure where it came from. He makes me feel like the really cool Nan Syl that he thinks I am. He is such an awesome lil guy. Today we were playing the Wii, and he doesn't like to lose at all, and he won the first game and then I won the second. Well he got mad and just started throwing gutter balls. So he wanted to play another game and I told him that I didn't want to play if he was going to be such a sore loser. So he got mad and went and pouted while I went in the kitchen. So I'm in the kitchen talking to my Mom and I hear him yelling from the other room, "Nan Syl you broke my heart!" The kid cracks me up!!! I broke his heart...well he came and found me and gave me a paper that he had drawn a heart on. And then wanted to make sure that he was going to sit by me at dinner. He's just to cute! So my pics are some of my favs of him and me.
He loves his coffee almost as much as his Nanny does
-Till Tomorrow

He loves to bake cookies!

Loves to Roast Marshmallows...well the kids a Latham, he just loves fire!
Freezing our butts off! But he wanted to be outside so thats what we did.

What Happened to the Day?

I didn't do anything today. Read a little, watched some TV, drank so coffee, and played on the computer. I did watch the World Cup Game and was so bummed that the US didn't beat Ghana! Besides that little bit of excitement from watching the game I had a pretty mild day. I didn't go to bed till really late last night and woke up early due to the fact that the electricity was out from 9:30 - 2:00!! So I think I'm going to turn in early tonight. Going to Heidi's wedding tomorrow, should be a lot of fun.

Not Getting Attached

So if you live in South Louisiana you know what June 1st signifies, hurricane season. Now, having gone through Katrina and losing everything, this time of the year makes a person a little uneasy. We all have been watching the weather channel and this tropical depression that is out there and praying that it goes away. And if you live down here you totally understand all that is involved in having to pack up and leave if a storm is on its way. Today I went and located all of my rubbermaid buckets so in case we have to pack up. After going through Katrina I replaced all of my stuff and when doing this I wanted to make sure that what I got I wasn't to attached to it. Prior to Katrina I had a ton of really awesome stuff, like this cute red couch, a ton of antiques and things that had sentimental value. Well after I lost it all I was really mad and upset and mad at myself for being upset about losing stuff. I decided that I didn't want to be like that again and that I didn't want to become attached to things. I also decided that the stuff that I would buy would be stuff like clothes and jewelry because you can pack that up pretty easily in the case of an evacuation. I have do have some really cute things and there are some things that I will pack, but for the most part I don't really have any big items like I did before. We will continue to watch and pray that God spares us from another hurricane season, especially with all of this oil spill junk we sure don't need a storm.
But on a much brighter note, I found a new coffee mug and thought I would share.

Wigging Out

Today I had a ton of errands to run and then a Bachelorette party. Had an early morning doctors appointment and running to do here and there. I also went and sold some of my clothes at Plato's Closet but was a little disappointed that I didn't find anything to buy. After getting my $31 in cash for my clothes it was back to the West Bank and my appointment for my car. It just turned over 75,000 miles and was time for a tune-up and I ended up having to get a new belt put on. After all of that went to my cousins to change and get ready for the Bachelorette party.
So for the party the invitation said to wear a wig. I didn't happen to have one laying around and this is really not the time of the year that you can just go anywhere and find one. So sadly I went without one...but to my sheer enjoyment (thats typed with a lot of sarcasm!!) they had an extra one! So for the sake of not being a party pooper I donned the Blonde, yes a blonde, wig. I didn't have it on for long, but long enough to snap a pic and realize that I looked like a cheap blonde that had some really bad roots! Oh, and long enough to realize that I like my dark hair. It was a fun night and I have to say that Heidi looks really cute with blue hair!
-Till Tomorrow
Heidi looks cute I just look Ridiculous!!!!
For every question she got wrong about Matt she had to take a shot

So one thing that you will notice is that a lot of my everyday clothes come from my days of working at American Eagle. I'm all about comfort and keeping it simple.
Today I got a random call from some documentary film makers wanting to know if I would speak to them about the oil spill. So I agreed to meet with them even though I wasn't sure I had anything to offer. I just have to say that I'm so ready for a normal life. We were just starting to get back to some sense of normalcy and this oil spill thing happened. Now the military is back down here and there is the ever noise of helicopters flying in the air. People are stressed about their jobs and if their way of life will be affected. We all want to know when they are going to get this problem fixed and if we are going to have to make even more changes. None of us know what the future holds but we are really tired of having to fight for our community. I miss the way things were before Katrina, but thats over and wishing for how it was gets us nowhere. But I was getting really used to what we had made from what Katrina left us and I really hate to see something mess with that! Katrina really sucked! But there was also a lot of good things that came out of it. I'm just hoping that with this oil spill situation we can look back and find the good that came about due to it. We are not the only people experiencing destruction and heartache. People all over the country are going through hard times. In some states schools are closing, whole towns drying up, fires devouring homes and land, while quakes are shaking others foundations. Thank God that we have a hope that is rooted and founded in God. No matter what may come my way I know that my God is still on his throne and has my life in his hands. I hold firm to Jer. 29:11-13 ...I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you plans to give you a hope and a future... and Ps. 138:8 The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me...
Ok, well thats all I have to say on that.     -Till Tomorrow

You Just Never Know What You've Got

Before
After!!!
Sometimes we just don't know what we have or how good we have it and we get a lil nudge that reminds us. So my pics are of this really cool necklace that my friend Amy got me while she was in Greece. I thought it was really cool the way it was when I got it. I remember her mentioning something about it being made from old coins but really didn't think to much about it. Well I decided to see what I had and to take a polishing cloth to the necklace. Boy was I ever in for a surprise!!! After a while of rubbing and polishing I was rewarded with the very awesome necklace on the right. It was amazing to see the difference that some polishing made, you could even see that they are coins! I loved it before, but loving it even more now! I just didn't really know what I had.
So I am enjoying my first real week off since the summer break started. I have to say that I do miss a routine. Today I didn't get up till almost 1! I then felt like I needed to do something productive so I figured no better time to go to the school and make copies of my Geography binder. Last week while at my professional development I met the social studies teacher from Phoenix, a school across the river that is smaller then ours, if you can believe that. She told me that she has 7 preps this year, meaning she teaches all of the social studies classes and has 7 different lesson plans to do... I would Die!!!!! I thought I had it bad with 3 different preps last year, thats nothing compared to this poor girl. Well anyway she asked if I would mind sending her what I had for Geog. since she had never taught it before. I told her that I would send her whatever I could to help her. That is by far the one thing that I have learned as a teacher, you beg, borrow, steal, share, and adjust lessons and activities. I was more then happy to help her since I have been helped so many times! My supervising teacher, the Great Zana, taught me that as teachers were only as good as those around us. Now this Geog. binder has been the work of two years of teaching Geog. and saving and adjusting as I went. Now I have what I call my Geog. bible. I also wanted to have an extra copy of my binder just in case of some freaky accident, its representative of a lot of work and would hate if anything would happen to it. So off to the school I went and to the copy machine. Wow! I have some stuff in that binder. Got it all copied and made an extra one for myself to keep her at the house, you know just in case. After that I came home had dinner with the family and then spent some time watching TV and Facebooking. Well who knows what tomorrow will bring, I have no plans and the weather is calling for rain. Sounds like a good day for reading. -Till Tomorrow

Father's Day

Me and my Daddy

Just want to start out by saying Happy Father's Day to all those really great men that are called Dad. I am so blessed to have one of the best Dads!! He may be to blame for me still being single. Because of him and all the other great men in my life, like my brothers and Uncle Walnut, guys have a lot to live up to. They have set the standard and its high. I thank God all the time for giving me such a great family. Me and my Dad are a lot a like in many ways and he has always been such a huge support for me.
Today was a pretty lazy day. I slept in ahhh... and loved it! Then had some coffee and straightened up a bit around the house.  Then spent the afternoon hanging out some with the family before church. After church had dinner with the parents and then watched the Lifetime movie "Double Wedding." It was a cute movie but made me a lil sad. Tonight after church my aunt & uncle and parents and I were sitting around taking and they were talking about how I was going to be single forever...I really don't want to be. I know I'm picky and maybe some think that my standards are to high but its not like I have a ton of guys beating down my door and I'm just turning them away. Plus, if your going to spend the rest of your life with someone I really think you should start off with something great. I'm no looking for perfection, but there are some things I will not back down on. Why, oh Why can't I find someone that I'm not only attracted to but has all the other stuff as well??? I pray all the time that God will give me the grace to enjoy this time and if its to always be this way change my heart.  -Till Tomorrow

What Makes Me Smile

Today was the first day that I got to sleep in and it was so nice! I'm so excited that this coming week I have nothing planned!! Ahhh my summer break has started!! I didn't really do anything today. I woke up at 11 and then made a pot of coffee and finished the book I had started last night. While making my cup of coffee I used one of my new favorite coffee cups that I just love! I then decided to take some pictures of the different things that make me Smile.    Enjoy    -Till Tomorrow

                            Things that make me Smile
Love this mug! And don't you just love my sweet-in-low holder
LOVE LOVE my canisters
Love this picture of us on the Ferris wheel in Prague...always makes me smile :)
This was given to me after I got a $250 ticket for parking in a handicap spot at my apartment on campus...I ended up not having to pay the fine but only after I appealed it...I had a good reason I promise
Like my antique clocks
Love all of my magnets from my trips and the kiddie letters
Great Pic of me and my Dad in China and Love the gnome and mushrooms! Don't know why but I just like mushrooms and gnomes.
This plate was given to me by my supervising teacher, she would call me the cupcake fairy because I loved to bring cupcakes to class all the time...still love cupcakes!
Told you I liked mushrooms...my friend Amy found this ornament (i collect them as well) in Mexico. Think its so funny to see a manger scene in a mushroom.
Love me some cherries...Summer food makes me Smile!
One of my favorite verses and the crazy lil bird makes me smile
If you live in South Plaquemines you have to have a pair of boots and when I have to wear them I really need a reason to smile and these give me one...I'm also noticing that a lot of the things that make me smile have polka dots hmm?
Found this at T J Maxx and got it for super cheap because one of the legs in the back was broken, I fixed it have loved it since I found it...always makes me smile to know that I got a $70 dollar item for $15!!
This is what my lil cabinet holds...my jewelry collection, which all makes me Smile!
This candy dish makes me smile because it brings back such great memories. It was my grandmothers and my grandpa always kept it full of Hershey Kisses, or as he called them Silver Bells.
