A Few Hypothetical/rhetorical Questions

Image Here

I have a few questions for the universe. Some hypothetical/rhetorical, others that I would like an answer to but fear I will never get. Questions:   1. Why is it that no matter how small you seem to make a taco it still seems to always fall apart?   2. Why do people send smilies :) when they text you back and really have nothing to say?   3. Why is it that when a single person is around a married person and makes the statement that they are tired of being single, the married person always says something like "You don't know how good you have it." or "I wish I could do all the stuff you can do." Really??   4. WHY do people go on dates if they're not looking for a relationship??   5. Why must everyone that is married have to remind me that me being single has so many freedoms?   6. Why do we have to pay for gas, shouldn't it just be available since we all need it and pretty much the country can't run without it?   7. Why is there reality TV...come on we all know thats not reality??   8. Why can't life come with a GPS and guide me right where I need to be and when I make a wrong turn it would let me know by saying "Rerouting" and it would also have signs along the way that would point out important things like, "Marry Him," or "U-turn fast he's a loser and a very bad detour!!"   9. Why do people think that taking a pic with their phone in the mirror looks good???   10. Who decided to do away with Elmer's Paste?   11. Why does school have to start at 7:45 am, why not at 10 am??   12. Why can't you just go to the store and buy a husband and kid and it all have an owners manual with it?   13. How in the world did people like Samantha Brown and Anthony Bourdain go about getting their jobs...where do you sign up for that???   14. Why didn't Noah just Squash those two ants, misquotes, and roaches on the ark...Im just saying??
I will end on number 14, well just because I can...it is my stinking blog haha!!!
If you happen to run into Miss Universe (yes, the universe would be a woman) could you maybe ask her some of the questions above and let me know what she has to say, especially #12! But if she is anything like I think Lady Luck is, she's a mean sort and will just jerk you around ;)

A Little Bit of This & That, and A Little Bit of Here & There

It's so sad to the end of the summer drawing close :(
I can say that it has been a fun, productive, adventurous, exciting, relaxing, sometimes hectic, but overall delightful summer! I have been doing a little traveling, a lot of reading, visiting with friends, and meeting some new ones along the way. As always, my camera was with me along the way and so here is a lil of this & that and a bit of here & there.

So I've been taking an e-course on Creativity and seems it has got me thinking creatively about some of my furniture. I've been wanting to do something with my dresser, and after getting some courage from Brooke over at All Things Thrifty, I decided to jump right in. She has some great info on painting furniture and a lot of other great info as well.
So I grabbed a few cans of Krylon's Bauhaus Gold spray paint and got to work.
Here is the before:

And the after!!!

I wanted to do something different for the drawer pulls. So I jumped on one of my FAVORITE sites, Etsy and found these great antique water valves that I thought would make awesome drawer pulls...
What do you think of my furniture transformation???

After finishing up with my dresser, and realizing how easy it was, I thought, "My living room could use a little bit of mustard yellow"...I've really been dying to paint my bookshelf!
I have to say that I'm very happy with both of my projects and the bookcase seems to lighten up the rest of the room.

I also made some changes to some other things around the house:

Made this memory board at a scrapbooking class last year and decided it was time it played a different role

So I added some small nails to the wooden hanger part and Voila!
a necklace holder

I also had to update my calendar. Seems that I keep buying the type of calendar that starts with the school year, so I have to get a new one in July...its this vicious circle that started in college and I can't seem to end because I hate to throw away a perfectly good half a year calendar just so I can start one with the new year. Oh well, I guess the cycle will continue, anyway this is my updated calendar.
Look how cute and Fun!!

Can't you tell I love color

I've also been having a lot of fun with some of my favorite scrapbooking paper and the photo editing program Picnik. I have to say that I was also very inspired by Vicki over at Simply Hue here are a few of the pictures that I created. I had a lot of FUN with these and would love to know what you think about them :)
(you can click on the pic to see them bigger)

I found this lollipop at World Market and just loved it!! I thought it would make for a great photo prop

I made this next one in honor of my supervising teacher Mrs. Zana Curley haha!!!

And this one because...well sometimes I feel like God gets a good laugh out of my life. It sometimes seems that it is a low budget film and sadly it has never been a romantic comedy. No its more like a sarcastic, slapstick, strange british humor type of comedy (but with really good shoes)

In between all this creativity I have been doing some running here & there. I was on staff again for YMI, the Young Ministers Institute. It's a week long retreat for young people that feel like they have been called into the ministry. It was good as always, but this year brought with it a lot of changes. The Blakney's, who birthed YMI, passed the baton. As with all things there are seasons and change, that is just a part of life.
We had a really good group this year, a lot of first timers.

YMI is always a good week for me to be apart of pouring into young lives, catching up with old friends, and meeting some new friends.

Well, only 2 weeks left till I have to go back to the school grind. I have been asked again to present on Classroom Management at the New Teacher Orientation. Just to be asked this was such a HUGE compliment to me, considering I've only been teaching for 3 years.

So with my remaining few days left of freedom, I'm off to visit some family and friends throughout the state. I have a meeting on Monday and then going to see my cool lil nephew and niece in BR. Then it's on to Crowley to hand out with Kristy and Tony, and after that its on to Alexandria to see Rach, Liz and Brandon!!!
It's going to be a fun week!!! and I will have my camera along for the ride as always :)

THEME FOR TODAY: Adventure

So I'm still playing catch up for my e-course on Creativity.

THEME FOR TODAY: Adventure

Definition of the word ADVENTURE via Dictionary.com:

ad·ven·ture (ad ven′c̸hər, əd-) noun

1.the encountering of danger
2.a daring, hazardous undertaking
3.an unusual, stirring experience, often of a romantic nature
4.a venture or speculation in business or finance
5.a liking for danger, excitement, etc.: a man full of adventure

As I started working on this project I realized how BLESSED I am to have experienced all of these Adventures!

Creative Exercise: HOME

I've been here and there and busy and I'm having to play catch up with my Creative e-course. One of our exercises was to create something with the theme of the word Home. Following Hurricane Katrina that word means something very different to me. I think that as we get older and things change home becomes something that we view very differently then when we were children. As a child it was a house, a place. Now I see it as a community, people, memories, a shared environment with people that I care about and love. It's not four walls, but the inner fiber and heartbeat that calls to all of us and binds us together. It is not something that can be destroyed by a storm, or something that can be quickly formed. It is a feeling that is cultivated, and created by people and love. I started by writing down the things that make me feel at home and are a vital part of my home and then I just started to doodle and draw and this is what came about. I apologize for some of the blurry photos.

What I've Been Up To...

Well, it's been a few days since my last post and the reason is that I've been busy! As I've said in previous post, I'm taking an e-course with Vicki over at Simply Hue and it has really spurred my creativity. I have really enjoyed spending time sketching, painting and working on some of the other exercises that are apart of the course. One of the assignments was to create a Creative Journal and do something creative everyday. I've also been having fun with one of the creative exercises based on the word Home. It's not quite done just yet, but I will be posting a photo of it soon. Here is a pic of my journal:

The finished product
In between being creative, I've been doing a good bit of fishing...I'm in love! I have found that I love offshore fishing. I've been going out a lot in the last few weeks and have caught every time! I also got to go with my friend Heidi on her first fishing trip, and we had a blast!! Here are a few pics of my recent fishing trips (And yes, I know it looks like I wear the same the every time but it's my standard fishing trip clothes haha!!!):

Me and my Lemon Fish

With one of my Red Snappers

Heidi fighting her first big fish

She did an awesome job and brought in this nice size Red fish

We had a great trip...Good times out in the bayou with friends!

Besides fishing, I've also did some cleaning, organizing, and furniture transformations. I repainted two items in my house after being inspired by Brooke over at All Things Thrifty. She has some great tips for repainting and glazing furniture and so I decided to take the plunge, grab a few cans of spray paint and make some changes. I will be showing before and after photos in another post, I'm not yet done with my dresser I repainted (I have some awesome drawer pulls coming that Im so excited about!!!). So as soon as both are done you will get to see them. I'm also working on getting my Pop Art project done that my art students started the last two weeks of school. It was a bit more work then we first anticipated, here is a few photos of the process:
The photo shoot...they had so much fun with this!!

After I tweaked it to Pop Art it

Figuring out the project. They mixed the colors, did the layout and how the background would look

Tracing the picture so we can paint it
As you can see it's quite a project. I'm almost done with it and can't wait to see the finished product, I have just the place to put it in my room for this new school year. I can't believe that I have one month till the start of the new school year. I'm excited and a little nervous about teaching art full time. I've only taught Fine Art Survey before and I will be honest, I'm the most nervous about being compared to our present art teacher who is Awesome and very talented. This will all be new uncharted waters for me and, as always with change, there is a little bit of me that is afraid that I won't cut it. But I know that I will give 120%, and I've learned from past experiences that, if I set my mind to do it, I can and will! Of course the first day of school I will be a bit more nervous then I usually am, but we will all settle in and then by the next semester I will be so much better! Well, tomorrow I hope to finish some sketching projects and work on a photo idea that I've been turning around in my head.
Hope that y'all have a Happy Monday!!!
